The experience of spending time with Canterbury Rugby and the Crusaders allowed me to see a world class organisation and its experienced staff in operation. The opportunity exposed me to a wealth of knowledge in all fields of the game from back play to forward play, positional specific to unit/team development, skill development to patterns of play. My close link with Canterbury ITM Cup preparations allowed me to underpin and develop my own ideas of how a professional team prepares for a seasonal campaign. The openness of the organisation and all the coaches to discuss and support my individual needs are what I will cherish most along with knowledge shared from my opportunity. Under the careful guidance of John Haggart and the IHPU team I have returned to Scotland a far more informed, confident, self reflective coach from my involvement in the IHPU with a clear direction on how I wish to coach and be perceived as a coach going forward in my career.
