International High Performance Unit Players Make the RWC
Earlier this year 3 Fijian players attended the Canterbury Rugby Unions High Performance Unit. These 3 players Nemia Ranuuku, Sete Somoca and Waisea Daveta were all selected in the Fijian RWC side.
The players spent time playing club Rugby and training at the IHPU and were all placed on Individual training plans. Some of the highlights of their stay included expert tuition from All Black Scrum coach Mike Cron and for Nemia a training session with All Black halfback Andy Ellis.
The IHPU Manager John Haggart also believed the players had a really positive impact on local club Rugby. “Nemia was the top try score for Belfast and was instrumental in a lot of their success this year. Both Waisea and Sete played for Lincoln University and Linwood respectively and as props were immense value in supporting their clubs in this area of the game”
The IHPU is currently recruiting for players from overseas wanting to experience the Canterbury and Crusader environment.
In addition to this the IHPU is going to offer an opportunity for domestic players who don’t make their local Academy on merit but wish to gain further expertise in all aspects of the game. This programme will operate for a full club season.
